Budweiser presents the Show-Me Racin' Series Late Models


West Plains, MO. (May 3, 2008)
This weekend saw the Show-Me Racin' Series make their first appearance of the season at West Plains Motor Speedway, and they did come in force with 28 of the high powered machines. The evening was sponsored by Great Rivers Distributors of Fine Budweiser products and included a full points program for the weekly classes.

Taking the winner's honors in the Show-Me Racin' Series feature event, over 28 competitors in the class, was Leslie Essary of Crane, MO, followed by the "flyin' farmer" Ken Essary of Cape Fair, MO, Kevin Patrick of Gentry, AR, Chuck Adams of Poplar Bluff, MO, Rick Lebow of Galena, MO, Jim Flup of Aurora, MO, Conner Ward of Wichita, KS, Kevin Henson of Marionville, MO, Rick Wallis of Springdale, AR and Burl Wood of Republic, MO, rounded out the top ten.

Balance of the late model field included Jordan Holloway of Monett, MO, Don Cloyd of Fair Grove, MO, Darrin Barton of Aurora, MO, Jeremy Kelley of Walnut Grove, MO, Chris Morelock of Springfield, MO, Randy Galloway of Rogers, AR, Jeff Johnson of Joplin, MO, Jarrod Hilton of Crane, MO, Wesley Briggs of Phillipsburg, MO, Jimmy Bellamy of Crane, MO, Chuck Comer of Joplin, MO and Shane Essary of Aurora, MO.

Tony Anglin of Walnut Ridge, AR, won the IMCA Modified feature for the first time this season. Coming in second was Scott Crigler of Alton, followed by Brandon Ball of West Plains, Shawn Walsh of Ash Flat, Carl Murphy of Caulfield, Jason Snodgrass of Mtn. Home, AR, Austin Smith of Mammoth Spring, Rustin Miller of Houston, Brian Judd and Calvin Tribble both of West Plains, rounded out the top ten.

Balance of the IMCA Modified field included Tony Carnal of Cabool, Fred Scarbrough of Koshkonong, Kevin Collins of West Plains, Chris Skinner of Moody, Lonnie Evans of Houston, Bobby Skinner of Moody, Matt Barry of West Plains, Kyle Cotter of Mtn. Home, Denny Tryon, Chris Piper and Jason Brigman, all of West Plains, Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, Jerry Croney, Denny Dennison and Carmon Vincent, all of the West Plains area.

Super Stock feature winner this week was Sean Williams of Willard, MO, followed by Derald Kelly and Dee Kelly, both of Birch Tree, Jeff North of Rogersville, Kevin Collins and Stan Ellison, both of West Plains, Will Love of Batesville, AR, Andy Collins of West Plains, Cody Kelly of Birch Tree, Steve Sanders of Norwood, MO, Bruce Sutterfield of Bono, AR, Herman Kelly of Birch Tree, Bobby Bryant of West Plains and Chris Junkersfeld of Pocahontas, rounded out the field.

It's been some time since we've seen Marty Toten in the winner's circle, but he took all the winner's honors this week when he won the Hobby Stock feature. Finishing second was Shane Hitt of Birch Tree, followed by John Stiner and Jessie Shearin, both of West Plains, Korey Whitelock of Alton, David Medlock and Larry Duke, both of West Plains, and Robert Williams of Van Buren, rounded out the field after a turn 2 rollover.

Making a return appearance in Victory Lane this week was Tyler Newcom of Hardy, after he won his second Cruiser feature event. Coming in second was Clay Lewis, followed by Jim Richesin , and Phillip Richesin, all of Van Buren, AR, Benny Grogan of West Plains, Mike McMahon of Van Buren, Corey Lambert and Doug Lambert, both of West Plains, Brad McMahon of Van Buren, Rowdy Trivitt of Williford, AR, Chris Eash of Highland, AR, Bill Harden and Rhonda Gunter, both of West Plains.

The Youth Hobby Stock feature winner was Kyle Duke of West Plains, and it was his first career feature win. Taking second was Ben Piper of West Plains, followed by Cody Toten and Kevin May, both of Pomona, Chase Williams of Caulfield, and A.J. Smith of Mammoth Spring, rounded out the field.

Next week Dillard-Fowlkes Motor Co., of Ash Flat and Melbourne, AR, will be sponsoring the weekly race program. Gates will open at 5 p.m., hotlaps at 6:30 p.m., with racing at 7 p.m. Adult admission will be $8, senior citizens $5, kids 7-11 $2, and those 6 and under are always free.

KKDY "The Racin Station" presents Weekly Points Races

 

West Plains Motor Speedway promoter, Don Gibson, has released the 2008 racing schedule.

This early season traditionally has drawn a field of top drivers from across the nation, and is expected to do the same this year.

West Plains Motor Speedway is a 3/8 mile red clay oval with moderate banking, and is located in south-central Missouir on US Hwy 63, only 6 miles south of West Plains, MO.

Several motels are available in the city and a free campground is available at the track with showers, restrooms, water fill and a dump station for motorhomes, but NO electric hookups are available.
Weekly classes this year include the IMCA Modified, Super Stock, Hobby Stock, Cruiser and Youth Hobby Stock. Track points races will begin on March 29, and continue through September 27.

The track champions from '07 are expected to be returning to defend their titles and they are IMCA Modified Champion Chris Piper, Super Stock Champion Stan Ellison, Hobby Stock Champion Dexter Frost, Cruiser Champion John Stiner and Youth Hobby Champion Ben Piper, all these drivers are from West Plains.

Ken Essary's late model travelling Show-Me Racin' Series will be making two more appearances this season, June 21 and August 30. These series are expected to bring a large field of the ever popular late models.

The track's premier event, the 16th annual "Show-Me 100" is set for May 22-24, and will again carry O'Reilly Auto Parts title sponsorship. The event usually draws over 100 of the most noted late model drivers in the nation. With the winner's check amounting to $42,000 this year and $4,200 just to start the feature a stellar field is again expected.

Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Arkansas, is the defending and 3-time champion of the event and will be looking to a fourth "Show-Me". This event is described as having the best purse structure in dirt late model history and the total purse will exceed $200,000. Each night will have a full non-sanctioned modified event.

The annual Firecracker Weekend, Super Stock special, is scheduled for July 3-5, and will again carry Sunoco and Simons Petroleum sponsorship.This 3-night event provides a $5,000 winner's check with $500 to start the feature event. This weekend will be highlighted by another fireworks extravaganza produced by Air Magic Fireworks of Batesville, AR, on the final night. Weekly classes will run points programs.

The 16th annual Modified Show-Me Championship is set for July 31 to August 2, and will be sponsored by Larry Shaw Race Cars and Mark Martin Ford, both of Batesville, AR. The winner's check for this years non-sanctioned event will be $6,500 and the feature start money is $650. Weekly classes will run points programs.
The Coca-Cola sponsored Fall Nationals will be held on Labor Day weekend, August 30. The Show-Me Racin' Series Late Models will be featured and the weekly classes will run points programs.

Special events will wind up with the annual late season appearance of the winged sprint cars on September 20, and the final points race of the season will follow the next weekend, September 27.
