| Welcome to West Plains Speedway Pit area. Drivers eagerly anticipating the opening of the gates to the Pit area where they proceed to ready themselves and their vehicles for inspections and the upcoming races. |
| Various makes and models are distributed throughout the pit area before the races actually begin. Each driver and crew supply their own tools, tires and various car parts needed to insure a safe race not just for themselves but for the other drivers they are competing against. | ![]() |
![]() | Team
members and drivers check their cars & equipment. All personnel in the pit
area are equipped with an identifying tag to insure they belong there. Cars are
unloaded, watched over and worked on prior to each heat, and race. Fans are allowed to visit the pit area with the purchase of a 'pit pass'. |
| Once the vehicles are unloaded they are inspected. Tires are
checked. There is always an IMCA Official making sure everyone complies with the
posted racing rules. Next the drivers meet to get their instructions. It is important to know the drivers placement order and all other pertinent information needed before the racing begins. | ![]() |
![]() | Opening
ceremonies begin with the American Flag being driven out onto the field by the
designated drivers while the national anthem is played. Truly a spectacular event to view. Drivers line up their cars to start the official race. Engines rumble as drivers apply fuel to them. |
| Once the cars enter the field the officials control the races. High above the fans, drivers and their cars, the green flag is raised and dropped to start the races. These officials work the caution lights, flags and keep a close eye on the races. A green flag starts the race, a yellow flag lets everyone know the field is under caution, a white flag is for one lap to go before the finish. A checker flag denotes a winner crossing the line. |
| A slight twist of the wheel, a extra dip in the road and
a caution flag comes out. All drivers try and get around the track safely, with
the least amount of damage possible to the vehicles, drivers and the track. The safety crew is 'right there' to assist the drivers, clear the debris and keep the track in great shape. |

| Round and round the track for the specific
amount of laps per race. The drivers juggle for placement in each of the hotlaps
and the main event. Even with muddy conditions, the drivers make their way around the track. A race was run on June 19, 2000 after nearly 5" of rain fell on the track. Thanks to the great people at West Plains Speedway the races are seldom cancelled. |
