Shawn Walsh Wins 17th Annual Show-Me Championship, Pockets $5,000

West Plains, MO (August 1, 2009) The West Plains Motor Speedway, and 17th Annual Open-Wheel Modified Show-Me Championship sponsored by Larry Shaw Race Cars and Mark Martin Ford and Chevrolet, was under a rain delay on opening day. But, doubling up on the last day and running an afternoon round as well as a evening round it was completed as scheduled. Shawn Walsh of Ash Flat, AR., is the new event winner claiming the $5,000 top prize.

Walsh, who qualified into the event through Round 1, knows his way around the track as he has been the track points champion several times and is currently leading in the weekly points race. Jeff Taylor of Jonesboro, AR, was a close contender as was the other top finishers who included Brad Buck of Paragould, AR, Brandon Ball of West Plains, Brandon Smith of Batesville, AR, Scott Crigler of Alton, MO, Ben Ledgerwood of Birch Tree, MO, Robby Arnold of Paragould, Hunter Rasdon of Jonesboro, AR, and Rustin Miller of Houston, MO.

Balance of the main event field included: Robbie McClain of Hot Springs, AR, Greg Waugh of Batesville, Jeff Floyd of Walnut Ridge, AR, Peyton Taylor of Batesville, Tyson Franks of Salado, AR, Ronnie Jeffrey of Batesville, Jason Hughes of West Plains, Gary Stolba of Willow Springs, MO, Kanyan Methvin of Yellville, AR, Jason Brigman and Josh Hughes, both of West Plains, Tony Anglin of Walnut Ridge, Tony Carnal of Cabool, MO and Joey Smith of Pomona, MO, rounded out the field.

In the Fastrak Late Model special feature, Jamie Robards of Broseley, MO, took the top money that amounted to $1,100 after Larry Shaw Race Cars added an extra $100 to the special winner's purse of $1,000. Taking second was Billy James of Sikeston, MO, followed by Mike Montague of Lebanon, MO, Jacob Black of Van Buren, MO, Tim Winchester of Gideon, MO, Jason Wilkey of Batesville, Steve Tarry of Paragould, Roger Witt of Batesville, Shawn Rayfield of O'Fallon, MO, Lane Ehlert of Foristell, MO, Jeff McGhee and Nicholas Black, both of Van Buren, David McDaniel of Sanger, TX, John Hill of Jonesboro, Mike Atchison of Eminence, MO and Greg Pectol of Newark, AR.

Carmon Vincent of Moody, MO, won the Super Stock feature this week, followed by Bobby Bryant, Dexter Frost, Stan Ellison and Kevin Collins, all of West Plains, Jeff North of Rogersville, MO, Dee Kelly of Birch Tree, Jessie Shearin of West Plains, Terry Green of Springfield, MO, Bill Dixon of Thayer, MO, Jamel Korkis of Cave City, AR, Jerry Buck of Paragould, Herman Kelly of Birch Tree, Todd Kelly of Mtn. View, MO, and Will Love of Batesville.

The Hobby Stock feature event winner was Kevin Collins of West Plains, followed by Kyle Duke, Chris Piper, John Stiner and Dexter Frost, all of West Plains, Lonnie Duncan of Alton, Mike Elliott of Ellsinore, MO, Clyde Shearin, Jr. and Randy Rader, both of West Plains, Brock Frost of Birch Tree, Ted Simpson of Alton, Billy Collins and Larry Duke, both of West Plains.

Clifford Collins of West Plains, won this week's Cruiser feature followed by Tyler Newcom of Hardy, AR, Corey Lambert, Mark Doiron, John Zuchowski, Doug Lambert, Bobby Neal, Bobby Bryant and Rhonda Gunter, all of West Plains.

The Youth Hobby Stock feature winner was Dakota Frost of West Plains, and taking second place trophy was Lane Elliott of Ellsinore, and third Jared Duke of West Plains. A.J. Smith of Mammoth Spring, AR took fourth followed by Skyler Cochran, Brandon Walsh of Ash Flat, Alan Atchison of Eminence, MO and Rowdy Collins of West Plains, rounded out the field.


Past Winner Tops the Field In Round 1 Qualifying Action


West Plains, MO
(July 31, 2009) In the delayed Round 1 qualifying at West Plains Motor Speedway's 17th Annual Show-Me Championship sponsored by Larry Shaw Race Cars and Mark Martin Ford and Chevrolet, 2-time past winner, Brandon Smith of Batesville, AR, took the top honors by winning the 25-lap qualifying feature on Friday night.
The balance of the qualifying lineup making the Main Event field included: Shawn Walsh, Rason Hunter, Robbie McClain, Brandon Ball, Jason Hughes, Tyson Franks and Tony Anglin.
Other drivers who qualified for the nightly feature, but will be attempting to make the Main Event in one or both of the remaining rounds included: Brad Buck, Jeff Floyd, Gary Stolba, Robert Powers, Joey Smith, Jason Brigman, Scott Burge, Fred Scarbrough, Tony Carnal, Austin Smith, Keith Craft, Robby Arnold, Scott Crigler, and Greg Hughes.
Thirty-two drivers registered, but additional are expected for the Saturday rounds. Round 2 will be an early afternoon event with the gates opening at 11:30, hotlaps at 12:30 and racing at 1:00. Support class with be the Cruisers. Adult admission is $10, kids 7-11 $3 and pit passes are $25.
Round 3, the final round of qualifying will be as scheduled with gates opening at 6:00, hotlaps set for 7:30 and racing at 8:00. Support class will be the Super Stock, and Fastrak Late Models. The Fastraks will be running for $1,000 to win with Larry Shaw adding the extra $100, making a total of $1,100 to win. Adult admission for the third and final round is $12, kids 7-11 $4 and pit passes are $30. Kids 6 and under are always free at West Plains Motor Speedway.
Winner of the Hobby feature was Kevin Collins, followed closely by Kyle Duke, Chris Piper, John Stiner and Dexter Frost who rounded out the top five. Winner of the Youth Hobby feature was Dakota Frost, followed by Lane Elliott, Jared Duke, A.J. Smith and Skyler Cochran made up the top five.

FASTRAK WINNER:
Jamie Robards of Broseley, MO, won the $1100 top prize by winning the Fastrak Late Model feature this weekend.

A special $1,000 purse was raised for this class this week and Larry Shaw Race Cars added $100 to make Robards winning total $1,100.
